There was always this lifelong dream of the owner, Cristina Estorque to have a library and coffee shop business where students would love to study and lounge around. She always had this love for the aroma and taste of coffee and loves reading and studying especially inside a library. And thus, when she got inside the old Book Latte, the business owned by a family friend, she expressed her desire to help them in their accounting needs just so she can always stay inside the coffee shop. The old Book Latte previously owned by the Tajanlangit couple became her client of I-Mgt Tax Accounting Finance and Consulting, her very own accounting firm and they had this working relationship for more than a year.
Cristina would advise them on how to efficiently manage their cash flows. However, towards the end of the months that followed, she can see that sales were really down and insufficient to pay their overhead expenses. And it was in the middle of 2009 that she was offered to buy the old Book Latte. If she will not accept such offer, the previous owner will close down the business because some people to whom they had offered to sell the same have difficulties in deciding whether to purchase it or not. Since Cristina really loved the idea of a library and coffee shop, she accepted their offer despite the fact that she had little capital and no experience in running this kind of business.
It was really an enormous challenge since there was little to start with, except the books and the recipes for coffee. Cristina decided to change everything and align the business to what she would envision it to be. She asked the help of Chef Red Zamora to revive the alcoholic cakes and to create the initial food line from sandwiches to pastas and waffles to lunch meals. She knew that in order to sustain the business, she must cater to the Ilonggo’s nature and love of food. Then she studied Interior Design in order to improve the look of the café. She also asked the help of coffee consultants to improve the taste of Book Latte’s coffee. The new logo is the elephant, which symbolizes love, art and wisdom.
When Book Latte was transferred to Robinsons Mall last December 2014, many more customers were attracted. The customers are mostly students who find it very lucky to study within the library café because most of them would pass their board examinations after they have stayed and studied in its premises. The café has won the award, “Best Concept Café in Iloilo City for 2015-2016” from Q Asia International Magazine. It has a lot more room for improvement and thus it welcomes students who would wish to study all its facets for their school paper requirement. Book Latte is committed to constantly improve in all areas to remain most loved as a library cafe. Its soul will always uphold its elephant symbol of love, art and wisdom.
